CATHERINE JOA

Northern Saskatchewan Landscape Painter

I was born and raised in the north. Growing up in a small northern mining town and spending summers working at a fishing lodge on the south shore of Amisk Lake, I gained a deep appreciation and love for the land. I’ve always been an artist. My folks tell me they could never keep enough paper and pencils in the house because I was always drawing and creating. After high school I moved to Winnipeg to go to art school at the University of Manitoba and graduated in 2003 with a BFA Honours. In 2007, I moved back home to my roots in northern Saskatchewan to work and raise my family. My love of the land and the north drives my obsession with painting it. I am inspired to represent the feeling I get when I am outside surrounded by beauty. Determined to spend my life close to nature and in the north, my work is driven by my passion for representing the land.
